My Review:
The Plan is one of those novels that really makes you stop and think about your life and about life in general. It definitely has the ability to make you realise just how good you’ve got it, while keeping you completely captivated in a story that you could never imagine, not even in your wildest nightmares.

This novel is very fluently written. Ammons has a way with words that allows her to portray this world eloquently, without ever loosing story flow to wordiness. The descriptions and narrative in this novel are also breathtaking. You can’t help but picture exactly what the characters are looking at or experiencing. I also appreciate the fact that this novel is historically accurate. The author uses the history of the south to spin a realistically disturbing tale that keeps you guessing. As a reader, you don’t know exactly what’s happening, but in a good way. It adds an element of suspense, rather than confusion, to the novel. Even when I figured out what was going on, I didn’t want to believe it.

The main characters in this novel are extremely well developed. They are amongst the most realistic characters that I ever remember reading about. You really feel for all of the characters in this novel, even the ones who are less-than-reputable. Everyone is developed in such a way that you can find the route of their issues and have at least a little compassion for them. I love that while the characters in this novel don’t all have the same dialect, each character stays true to the speech patterns that were developed for them. It keeps the dialogue very easy to follow.

Overall, my thoughts on this very captivating novel?.... I need the sequel to this now! Like right now. I need to keep reading. I definitely didn’t expect that ending. It may end in a bit of a cliff-hanger, but it is still the perfect ending to this novel. I need to know what happened to the characters that I’ve so come to love, or loathe.
