The Writing Process
By Ali Atwood

I wonder how many readers are curious about the writing process. From the time I began writing seriously, when I was about twelve, I wanted to know what inspired authors and what routines they followed. I’m still fascinated by method. Do the majority of writers work best in the morning or late at night? Do they plot with a pen in their hand or visualize and type? How do they handle writer’s block? Perhaps some bash away, scribbling rubbish until their muse takes pity on them. Others might pace the floor cursing at the blank computer screen.

For personal and household reasons, I operate best in the early morning. And I spend a great deal of time staring out the window while I work through scenes in my mind. Regardless of routine, every writer I know admits to having trouble writing. It takes a tremendous amount of time and focus to create an entertaining tale with engaging characters and realistic dialogue.

Is the slog worth it? Absolutely. For me it is a miraculous feeling to read a book I’ve finished and know it came about because I followed my bliss.

If an aspiring author were to ask for my advice, though I’m still somewhat of a newbie myself, I would tell them to write every day, even if you only have ten minutes to spare. When you start a new project, set a realistic deadline and stick to it. Keep moving forward. Don’t waste time revising your first draft. Too much fiddling on the first run may prevent those quirky muses from popping in to lend a hand, and definitely do not let rejection discourage you. Sylvia Plath said, The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt. So keep writing, keep improving and keep submitting your manuscripts.

My Review:

It never ceases to amaze me how Atwood tells such a complete story in such a short page count. This exciting, quick novella takes you on quite the adventure. Atwood combines a fairy tale romance with the best of the futuristic world that we’ve come to know and love through this intriguing series. This world is brought to light in a vivid, in your face manner that leaves you breathless.

The main characters in this novel are quite intriguing. Neither of the main characters are quite what they appear. As a reader you get to know them as they get to know each other. I enjoy the fact that Atwood develops both the good and the bad aspects of their characters. I also appreciate the fact that Atwood delves a bit further into what it means to be a Huntress for the Monroe sisters. It puts a few things in context and makes these women all the more fierce and loveable.

As a whole, this was my favourite novel in the trilogy. It was a brilliant ending & had some remarkable characters. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys some Sci-Fi action.

Now, she has to team up with bounty hunter Blane Sebastian, racing against the clock to rescue a kidnapped child due to be sold at auction on the Glory Dome space station.

Six years earlier, Sebastian was Lexine’s teenage crush. Fortunately for her, she is long past the point where a hard body and a sexy smile will put butterflies in her belly.

Adult-content rating: This book contains content considered unsuitable for young readers 17 and under, and which may be offensive to some readers of all ages.

My Review:

Each time I pick up a piece of Atwood’s work I come to love her writing more and more. We’ve come to know her for her approachable style and wild imagination, but this is oh, so much more. She mingles suspense with sexual tension in a manner seldom seen. Her vivid descriptions put you firmly in the realm inhabited by her captivating characters. I was also floored at the way that she works real world issues into this unforgettable futuristic tale.

Atwood creates the type of characters that you instinctively connect with and want to see succeed without having to know them very well. I fell in love with Lexy the moment she wanted to prove herself, even though she had nothing to prove. I also enjoyed the fact that the cast wasn’t entirely human. Both futuristic beings and mythical ones join their human counterparts to create an immensely enjoyable whole.

As a whole, this novella was fun, exciting, and out of this world, both literally and figuratively. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this to anyone & can’t wait to read the 3rd novella in the trilogy.

My Review:

Before I start I should mention that I don’t normally read space travel related tales, but for this author I decided to give it a shot & man am I ever glad that I did. Atwood had me hooked before the end of the first chapter. Even though Atwood works interplanetary travel & futuristic aspects into her story, it remains approachable and easy to relate to (or fantasize about).

Atwood employs explicitly visual descriptions that leave nothing to the imagination while at the same time sending your imagination running wild. She also mixes an intense plot with an extremely sensual and evocative relationship. The danger & Alpha-maleness brought on by this intricate plot added to the story for me. This novella is definitely hot, steamy, and racy but I really appreciate the backstory that brings the characters into their own.

The characters themselves are out of this world (no pun intended, they were brilliant). Each was so unique, and seeing the way that they all came together was truly inspiring. Also, the fact that the characters had histories, both alone and together, made the story all the more powerful.

This was definitely another brilliant novella by Atwood. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone (18+ of course). I also can’t wait to see what she comes up with next. Perhaps another adventure with Adara, Jett, & Brick? I can’t get enough of these three.

My Review:

Wow. Just wow. This book was really quite interesting. I love how Atwood seamlessly combined many genres of literature into a single novella. Although listed as an erotic novel (which it definitely is), it also has a very strong paranormal suspense component to it.

This novella was very well written. Atwood lays out her story clearly, progressing from one point to the next. And yes, it does have a definite storyline. The suspense that she builds throughout is very compelling. The descriptions and narrative that she employs were also very compelling. Many of the scenes in this novella were vividly realistic.

The characters in this novel were all very unique. Atwood developed them all extremely well considering the shortened page count of a novella, while still leaving more to be discovered in a sequel. I thoroughly enjoyed finding out the family histories of the main characters. Knowing where they came from helped explain who they were today. I also appreciated that the characters were not simply developed emotionally and personality wise, but also physically. You can clearly picture what each and every one of the main characters looks, sounds, and feels like.

This was a very intriguing, very compelling read. I couldn’t put it down at all. I’d love to read many more adventures with these characters.
