Back Cover Blurb:

Grandma warned me to resist him.

I know what he is. Even if he doesn't sparkle in the sun, hiss at holy water, or go by the traditional name of vampire, I know.

He doesn't want or need my blood. He wants my dreams...more specifically, my nightmares. And I've got oodles of those, so many they leak.

He's emotionally scarred, growly, dangerous, and kindles all my senses. Love isn't on his agenda. Having him for a guardian isn't on my list of fun, either. My touch sends him into darkness.

I shouldn't want him.

I can't want him.

But I do.

If I surrender instead of escape, I'll lose everything--my sister, my will, my life. Gran forgot to tell me the most important detail of all: how am I supposed to resist him when he's everything I've ever dreamed of?

Beautifully Burned is told in a dual, third person POV, and may be read as a standalone.

My Review:

Once again, Burright had me hooked from the first sentence. Her eloquent yet buoyant writing style was very easy to connect with and the plot was both exciting and inviting. Burright is simultaneously fun and sassy in her writing. There is a darkness that winds itself under this tale while also opening up into an action packed, fast paced forward motion. This is the type of tale that draws readers in both with the inviting plot and the well thought out and intricate world building. I enjoyed how Burright continued to build on the concepts developed in the first novel in the series. Nothing was redeveloped, but everything continued to grow, making both the world and the story much more full.

The complex relationship and dynamic between the main characters made them unforgettable. Yet at the same time, they were approachable and easy to identify with. I loved getting to know them as they came to know one another. The heat and the chemistry between them definitely helped as well. I loved the way that Burright invites readers in, making them feel as if they’re part of the characters’ lives, rather than simply bystanders.

Burright has definitely created both a world and a cast that will allow you to travel outside of your own reality for the time that it takes you to read the novel (and maybe a while afterwards as well). It’s a great read that I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to others.

  4. It was a dark and stormy night. Between flashes of lightning and clashes of thunder, I heard a knock on the door. Grandma stopped me with a hand held palm-out like a traffic cop.
"Shtay herwe," she warned. She had already removed her dentures for the night.
I lurked in the shadows of the hallway as Gran approached the door. "Who ish ith?" she said, trepidation staining the words.
There was no answer, only another knocking, more demanding this time.
Grandma turned and looked at me. Her eyes seemed unfocused, as though she'd been hypnotized. She then placed a gnarly hand on the doorknob and turned it. Slowly the door opened, hinges creaking in protest.
A tall, shadowy figure stood in the doorway, barely discernible in the rainy blackness outside.
A simultaneous crash and flash shook our old house and lit the world like high noon. It was HIM! Those beautiful, hideous red eyes; the slight grin curling the tips of his luscious, pale blue lips; and those fangs! Oh, those sharp, inviting fangs! Unconsciously I found myself drifting through the parlor toward him. I shoved Gran out of the way and clutched that cold, musty body, pressing my breasts against his chest as tightly as I dared without crumbling his 600 year old torso. Lovingly, he enclosed me in his bloodred-lined cape. A tingle raised the fine hair on the nape of my neck as he leaned down, exploring. And then . . . oh God! . . . and then, the most delicate, delicious feeling encompassed me as I felt the light prick of those fangs break the outer layer of skin. And then ecstasy slew me as they plunged deep, deeper, finally finding the fountain that would make us one. I was HIS, his at long last. His FOREVERMORE! :-)

  14. Hi Pure Jonel and CJ!

    How's it going?

First off - THANK YOU for the chance to win an ebook or book money (which I will convert into CJ's books! wink).

Secondly, WOW! Just knowing that it is a paranormal romance (with no zombies), it is a book that I would read. But after reading the review! I REALLY want - NEED - to read your books CJ! (Although it will take me a while since I am blissfully swamped with review books for the foreseeable (& unforeseeable) future! But now that I have found you, I will be happily stalking you all I can! I am a little ashamed to say that I don't have any of your books yet! What kind of paranormal lover am I? With Vampires being my main love too! *hangs head in shame* LOL

Anyway, Thank you very much for the chance to win, but most importantly - Pure Jonel - THANK YOU for introducing me to CJ!!!!

Cheers! HUGS Have a great one & take care Hone & Honey! xoxoxoxo
