A dark tale, told from the perspective of a young woman...

1960s, America. Tess' mother has disappeared. Refusing to believe her mother ran away, Tess decides to play a dangerous game. Alone and in secret, she sets a trap.

As reality around her begins to reveal its dark, warped nature, Tess becomes a victim of her own deception. The only way is to continue until the end and to confront the shadow side, whatever the cost.

This is a story about one young woman’s discovery of her own sexuality, and of her own strengths and limits in the face of menace.

Sweet Justice is a psychological suspense and mystery, and a short story of 6000 words. It's the second, stand-alone story in the Tales of the Unexpected, Mystery and Psychological Suspense series.

My Review:

This author manages to get right inside your head in a few short pages with this remarkable short story. The plot was intense and captivating while creating a tension that continues to build throughout. The descriptions are to the point and add to the story in a manner that gives it a one of a kind feel. Although a short read, I found it very satisfying. The suspense built throughout until I was completely invested in the tale.

This author has definitely nailed the art of penning a short story. The tale was complete and satisfying. It’s a story well worth reading and I’d definitely recommend it to others.

Back Cover Blurb:

A recurring moment from a past life, a possession, or a simple meeting between two strangers?

Kim encounters Oliver at a remote spot on the heath and though she’s never met him before, he seems familiar. How can it be he knows of things she’s said?
Oliver is both dangerous and magnetic and he seems to have knowledge of Kim’s family.
There’s a mystery lurking underneath the surface of their chance meeting, and Kim must make treacherous choices about her future.

Written on the Apple Tree is a haunting, atmospheric story about the links, real and imagined, that run between generations and how shadows from the past impact upon the present. It's a short read of 4000 words and the fourth, stand-alone story in the Tales of the Unexpected, Mystery and Psychological Suspense series.

My Review:

Although the cast of this tale was small, those that we do meet were perfectly suited to the plot of this short story. Girdharry uses not only her characters but also her descriptions to build the tale, and every word of the narrative serves a larger purpose. The tale was unique with a sense of completeness and right to it. I really enjoyed the way that everything came together, leaving me with a feeling of right at the end, although definitely wanting to know more. It was the type of story that really made me think, creating a bond of sorts with the characters.

  2. If the short story is well-written, they are like little nuggets of gold. Short thrillers pack a lot into just a few words, and takes some real talent! Jonel's review has sold me on this!
