My Review:

Penelope has created a work that combines fantasy with recent history in a unique manner. The novel started out quite strong, with lots of intricate and beautiful world building. I found that I got to know this world really well. Unfortunately after a while I found that the plot wandered and I couldn’t quite get into the author’s writing, making it hard for me to completely love the story.

The characters were quite intriguing, if at times a little too perfect. They were quite fun to get to know. At the same time, there were aspects of them that were only superficially developed. They did, however, fill their roles in this tale quite well.

As a whole, this was an enjoyable read. It is a good introduction to this series.
