Back Cover Blurb:

Being Damsport’s most elegant assassin is hard work. There’s tailoring to consider, devilish poisons to concoct, secret identities to maintain… But most importantly, Longinus must keep his fear of blood hidden or his reputation will be ruined. So when Rory, a scrawny urchin girl, threatens to expose his phobia unless he teaches her swordsmanship, he has no choice but to comply.

As if being saddled with a dirty, grammatically incorrect girl isn’t bad enough, a copycat assassin begins to imitate Longinus’ kills and threatens both his and Rory’s lives. Arguments have to be set aside, and Longinus and Rory are forced to work together to unmask and stop the copycat. But darker forces than they realise are at play, and with time running out, the unlikely duo find themselves the last line of defence against a powerful enemy who seeks to bring the city of Damsport to its knees.

My Review:

What a unique tale! From the setting to the characters, Jeanjean has developed them all with a flair that draws you in and a clarity that allows you to become part of the world. I enjoyed how Jeanjean filled the novel with intrigue and suspense while also giving readers something to laugh at. All throughout, the well-developed plot takes shape, painting the world in shades and hues as I became more and more attached to the characters.

Jeanjean’s unconventional characters and their development kept me hooked. The way that the characters’ lives, both in the past and present, unfolded throughout the story had me captivated. The huge disparity between their positions and behaviours lead to some very intriguing moments. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the main players in the tale. They made a great story into something unforgettable.

This is a fantastic series starter by an up and coming author. It was hard to put down and I definitely can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.

    1. Hi Michael,

I'm a bit of both actually. For this book I had what I think of as the 'tent poles' of the story (protagonists, antagonist, midpoint and ending) before I started writing. The sequel I outlined more fully, and then I'm now working on a book without any kind of outline. It completely depends on the story I'm working on :-)

  6. Hi Kids! I suck at signing up for fun things especially from Jonel. See, I'm on a bit of an, 'Internet Cleanse'. I've torn away from (gulp) facebook, and then stomped on twitter. Believe me, I've enough material to host SNL. Would you consider letting me play if I posted to LinkedIn, Google+ and my Pintrest Board: Authors? How about I use colored chalk on our driveway, or super sweet banner flying behind the Blimp? I get it, if you don't want me to play in your sandbox, I'll go my own way, but watch out for my son, Hagrid.
I was going to take you all on a cruise! Yesterday, I received an email, saying I'd won one! I'm sure they'd let you all come!

  17. Hi, Celine. Can you tell me a bit about how you discovered these two characters? In the writing of the book, did they lead you, or did you lead them? Thank you so much for such a tremendous giveaway. I would love to win a copy of this book; I've been watching (*dreaming about) it.
