Back Cover Blurb:

Machines aren’t supposed to feel, but this cyborg can’t help falling in love.

Assigned as a specimen collector for a captured cyborg, Chloe is intrigued by the machine disguised as a man. Kidnapped during his daring escape, he shows her that despite the chip in his brain, his humanity is not completely lost.

Formerly known as unit X109GI, Joe is on a quest to discover his origin. While he doesn’t find the answers he’s looking for, he does discover that affection isn't just for humans. But when it comes to a battle between logic and love, which side will the cybernetic organism—once a man—choose?

Evaluating his feelings will have to wait though because the military isn’t done with Joe. But their threats against him pale in comparison before the shocking discovery of project C791, the revelation of which stuns the rebel cyborgs—and ignites a fury for vengeance.

My Review:

Wildly imaginative & intensely hot. Langlais easily and seamlessly combines science fiction with an erotic relationship full of chemistry to create a one of a kind whole that will keep you hooked. The suspense throughout underlined everything that happened while the twists and turns in the plot kept me on my toes.

Langlais delves into the concept of cyborgs well, allowing readers to discover what is expected and what is possible. I loved how we not only find out where they came from and how they came about, but also how they differ from one another. The many personalities that we encounter really brought the concept of cyborg to life for me.

I appreciated the different writing style for Joe’s POV. It made me feel as if I were experiencing his thought patterns, and how they differ slightly from a human’s. Joe’s ‘heart problems’ had me in stitches. Seeing a cyborg rediscover his human emotions was a novelty. Langlais develops Joe’s confusion over it in such a manner that it was easy to understand. Chloe’s strength and fragility vie with one another to create a character that I found myself rooting for.

Will you be able to put this one down and walk away? Not very likely. Be prepared for one sleepless night.

Before he can learn to love though, he must first tackle the task of reminding F814 that she is more than the sum of her mechanical parts. But of course, when dealing with an illogical thing like emotions, there is no sure plan for success.

My Review:

The premise behind this story, and the series as a whole, is heartbreaking.  Emotions run deep throughout the entire story, yet at the same time the action packed and exciting plot definitely sizzles.  Langlais’ intricately crafted plot definitely held my attention throughout.  I found the nano-tech endlessly appealing.  Langlais not only sparked my imagination, but also kept my science minded brain endlessly reeling with the concepts that she brought forth.  It was both chilling and exciting.  Her vividly intricate world building makes it even more real.

Let’s not forget the cast of characters that made this story even better.  Langlais’ combines a heroine who believes she’s nothing more than a machine and a hero who believes he’s better off alone.  This main couple held my attention throughout, but there was so much more to the story than simply them.  I really enjoyed getting to know Seth, Aramus, and Einstein better.  They’re all so different and their personalities and beliefs affect them each in different ways.

This is a story so hot your ereader will go up in flames.  At the same time, the story is exciting and chilling in its implications.

Tired of being a slave to the military, Bonnie went to sleep one day with the intention of never waking up, but she didn’t count on a cybernetic prince charming bringing her back to life. However, all fairy tales have a villain, and despite the fact the military wrote them both off as a loss, they soon discover they’ll need to fight to have their happily ever after.

GO METAL!

My Review:

What a story! Intrigue and betrayal appear from unexpected quarters. Danger and suspense were never far from the forefront as Langlais’ natural skill as a novelist shines through. Real romance amidst an out of this world adventure was a fantastic treat. I enjoyed the more in depth look at the cyborgs’ liberation from Einstein’s POV. It really helped develop the Cyborg culture and history for me, putting the story in a deeper context.

Einstein may just be my favourite cyborg yet! His intensely cerebral reactions highlighted just what it means to be a cyborg. At the same time, the way that he instantly takes to certain aspects of humanity was endlessly entertaining (and quite hot, to boot). Bonnie’s reactions to everything were absolutely priceless. I also enjoyed seeing the contrast between her internal thoughts and her true outward reactions.

My final thought? I can’t bloody well wait to see Aramus eat his words & find out what happens to Seth next.

Title:  Aramus
Series:  Cyborgs:  More than Machines #4
Author:  Eve Langlais
Publication Date:  September 23/13
Length:  211pgs
Genre:  SciFi Romance
Shelf:  own
Rating: ★★★★★

Back Cover Blurb:

Wiping out humanity is his number one objective—until he meets her.

Aramus has no patience or sympathy for the excuses humanity uses to hunt cyborgs down and eradicate them. He’s put up with too much at their hands to ever forgive and forget. But all that changes when he rescues a fragile human doctor who refuses to see him as a machine. She teaches him that perhaps not all emotions are a weakness and that love can make even a cynical cyborg like him stronger.

And for those who’d mock his change of view or threaten his female? Go ahead. His iron knuckles could use some exercise.

My Review:

This might just be my favourite story in the series yet! Langlais returns readers to the fantastic and wildly imaginative world of her cyborgs with adventure and suspense. Romance, self-discovery, and forgiveness all make an appearance as danger threatens at every turn. Langlais’ smooth and forward writing kept me wrapt as the story unfolded. She makes some of the most inane comments endlessly comical based on their context.

I love how the cyborg names span a range from normal human names to unique ones based on what the individual cyborg remembers or how they view themselves. I liked the way that Aramus was developed, both in the past and present. It gave a great deal of insight into his prejudices and temperament. I also found it intriguing to see the GI cyborg pre-liberation. It put a lot of things into context for me.

Oh Aramus, Aramus, Aramus, was it ever fun to see you eat your words. Aramus’ blunt personality is priceless. It never fails to make me giggle while also giving me a glimpse of all the pain and betrayal that he’s been through. Countered by Riley’s endlessly caring nature, Langlais has created a couple that definitely stands the test, in this world and beyond.

This was an absolutely fantastic novel to read, taking me out of this world and out of my reality while I was lost in its pages. It’s an even more unforgettable story when taken as an addition to this series.

Title:  Seth
Series:  Cyborgs:  More than Machines #5
Author:  Eve Langlais

Back Cover Blurb:

His mission: Blend in with the humans. Save the cyborgs. And seduce the only woman he ever loved, without getting killed.

Cybernetic spy models are different from other humans turned machine. For one thing, they never completely lost touch with their humanity, or their memories. But retaining their identity doesn't mean the military didn't mess with their lives. Seth lost the woman he loved because of their web of lies. When the chance arises to make things right, he relies on his superior intellect--and irresistible charm--to prove his innocence, and make Anastasia his again.

Anastasia might possess upgraded parts and programming, but the scientists never could cure her of her biggest weakness, jealousy. The volatile emotion made her walk away from love once. Can she overcome it and recognize the truth? Or will she continue to let the military manipulate her emotional strings?

My Review:

Langlais’ seamless writing allows her innate skill as a novelist to shine through. Her world building never ceases while at the same time she develops an intricate and intimate plot that is both entertaining and thought provoking. The various aspects of the story all tie together while also providing a large backdrop for readers to immerse themselves in. The combination of comical, snarky moments with suspenseful ones means that you’ll never be bored. Ok, I’ve got to say it. I absolutely love the name of the cyborgs’ ship. It cracks me up every time I read it.

The in-depth look at Seth’s background not only brings his personality and more human characteristics into focus, it also shows how cyborgs came into being, or at least how individual ones were made. The technology and process behind it was quite fascinating. It also brings the glaring difference between the spy model cyborgs and everyone else into sharp focus. Not only that, but experiencing Seth & Anastasia’s combined and separate pasts put their current relationship into perspective. I love the way that they competed with and bated one another, while also putting their lives on the line to protect each other. Their relationship was fantastic and kept me engaged throughout.

Langlais sets this novel up so that it could potentially be read as a standalone, briefly filling in the key points of who’s who & what’s what, but for full enjoyment I’d recommend reading the full series in order. The way that this novel overlaps and intertwines with Aramus’ story really enhanced my enjoyment. I really like how each novel in the series builds on the previous one, while also standing on its own.

Title:  Adam
Series:  Cyborgs:  More than Machines #6
Author:  Eve Langlais
Publication Date:  March 17/15
Length:  226pgs
Genre:  SciFi Romance
Shelf:  own
Rating: ★★★★★

Back Cover Blurb:

On Earth, when a rebel cyborg leader is drawn into a search for answers, he doesn’t expect things to blow up. And he’s not just talking about his house. Somehow his heart explodes, too, with the last thing he ever expected—love.

Adam survived the great cyborg purge because the military made a mistake, a mistake they lived to regret. They crossed the line when they decided to take away his free will and turn him into a machine. They erroneously thought him a slave they could command.

However, their biggest screw up of all was when they didn’t terminate him at the first sign cyborgs were regaining sentience.

As the rebel cyborg leader on Earth, Adam is doing everything he can to rescue others of his kind. Part of his current, undercover mission involves infiltrating a top secret military facility where he comes in contact with a human scientist. A sexy scientist whom he’s ordered to protect.

What should have been an easy job turns into a fight for his life because it’s not just bullets and hit squads he’s got to worry about, but his heart.

How can one fragile female mean so much? It’s almost too much for a rational-minded cyborg to understand. When the choice is given, escape or let her die, he lets his heart decide, and that's when things begin to explode—literally.

My Review:

Langlais returns to her world of cyborgs with an explosive and endlessly entertaining story. She further develops what makes a cyborg a cyborg. Their personalities, culture, and intrinsic makeup are all prevalent throughout the novel. I found the sneak peeks at what makes them tick just as interesting as the action of the story. At the same time, the fast paced, action packed novel was one that I couldn’t put down. The plot was well thought out and caught my attention, while the well-crafted narrative fleshed it out in a manner that I won’t soon forget.

The main couple in this novel were a hoot. Their acceptance of each other was as hopeful as their relationship was explosive. Their individual personalities shone through as they came together in order to survive. As much as I loved getting up close and personal with Adam & his little scientist, I really enjoy how the story is about something so much bigger than just them. The new characters that we meet are well developed and enigmatic. Adam and Seth’s competition was so Alpha male. One’s short forays into the story have me intrigued and perplexed. I can’t wait to find out more about her.

This was a fantastic and gripping novel that I’m definitely glad to have read. I thoroughly appreciate how Langlais continues to build on what has already happened in the series while also developing an unforgettable tale of love, acceptance, and fighting against the odds.

Title:  Avion
Series:  Cyborgs:  More than Machines #6
Author:  Eve Langlais
Publication Date:  April 23/15
Length:  162pgs
Genre:  SciFi Romance
Shelf:  own
Rating: ★★★★★

Back Cover Blurb:

Being a cyborg was so much better when all his parts worked. Avion’s nanotechnology stopped functioning after some experimentation done on him by the military. They broke him and now, Avion is no better than a human, even more annoying, he’s dying.

But at least he completed his final mission. He saved, One.

Mysterious and alluring, Avion isn’t the only person who wonders what surprises this woman hides. The human military and their alien allies fear what she’s capable of and will stop at nothing to destroy her. However, the one thing they didn’t take into account is that the cyborgs always protect their own, and they aren’t afraid to use deadly force.

And no one could imagine the depths One will stoop to in order to protect the man she loves.

The Cyborgs: More Than Machines books can be read as stand alone stories, however, for total reader enjoyment it is recommended you read them in order.

My Review:

What a fantastic & gripping conclusion to Langlais’ Cyborg series. I loved each and every second of it. Her in-depth storytelling combined with the fast paced, explosive tale created a whole that I couldn’t put down. I still can’t stop thinking about it. Langlais doesn’t just make cyborgs and nanotech seem plausible, but rather, completely possible. The fact that I was able to picture this happening now, hidden behind secretive closed doors made the story even more real. And the new twists that we get to see had my mind reeling.

I loved the characters here. Not only do many of the individuals that we’ve come to know in perveious novels really shine, but we also get up close and personal with Avion as he tries to accept what he sees as his fate. Seeing One trying to assimilate everyone’s emotions as well as their place within the group was both fascinating and comical.

This novel wraps up the series well without tying it up in a nice little bow. You can sense where things are headed but they’re far from done. We’re simply at a new beginning. It’s the perfect ending for this well developed, endlessly enjoyable series.
