Barrel rider Reba Duvall has been crushing on Nick Blue since the moment they met, but she kicked him to the friend zone to keep her heart from being bruised and battered by the charmer... until they turn to each other for comfort when their best friend dies. Reba knows it’s for one night only, but still, it hurts to wake up alone. But it turns out a memory is not all Nick left her with...

Nick Blue never guessed his father was one of the richest men in Texas. Or that he’d have to live in Whiskey River with two unknown brothers for a year to inherit his share of the family property. But hey, stranger things have happened, such as bumping into his friend and one time lover in that same town... the one he hasn't been able to stop thinking about all this time. But running into Nick is not an accident. Reba has a plan. She wants baby Martina to know her father.

Reba may not know what she wants from Nick, but it sure isn’t a half-assed marriage proposal and sharing a luxurious bedroom at Kelly Ranch. She plans to keep things platonic. Can Nick convince her she needs more than one night with the playboy?

My Review:

What a sweet, funny, emotional and romantic tale. Garbera has created a wonderful story of second chance romance with a twist that I couldn’t put down and was definitely sad to see end. I love Garbera’s smooth, easy style that highlights her characters’ actions and emotions. She also brings the Kelly spread to life in a manner that was so easy to picture. Her descriptions develop it in such a manner that I can easily picture all of the key components yet she also sparks my imagination, allowing me to fill in the rest with my idea of the perfect ranch.

The main characters in this story were off the charts fantastic. Both needing some emotional healing while also dealing with the wonderful repercussions of past events, they needed each other as much as they needed their independence. Nick’s fear of failing and being hurt again caused him to run, while at the same time Reba’s fear that Nick with run caused her to shy away. Seeing them overcome this not only let me see who they really are, but also warmed their heart. I also enjoyed the fact that the sex between them (while definitely spicy) was also a meaningful part of their relationship, not simply an interlude to add heat to the novella.

This novella is great if you’re looking for a quick, sweet read with a kick. Even if you’ve missed the rest of the series (like I somehow have), you’ll love this novella. But I will warn you, it’ll leave you dying to jump back and read the 1st 4 novels.
