Minding Her Boss's Business & Love Lessons Learned with author Janice Maynard

Love Lessons Learned with Janice Maynard
author of

I find that some of the most important “real-life” romance lessons appear again and again in my books as ongoing themes. For one, communication is key. Misunderstandings and unresolved conflicts can poison a relationship, no matter how new or how old. Also, it’s critical to have confidence in who you are. If another person is going to fall in love with you, or vice versa, nothing is more important than being real. How many times are people disappointed in love because one party or the other was putting on a front? Finally, trust is key. Assuming you have found someone worthy of your trust, don’t let your own insecurities chip away at the growing bond between you. Remember…you are a person worth loving! Trusting another human being with your heart is risky, but when we get it right, it’s magical.

About the author:

JANICE MAYNARD knew she loved books and writing by the time she was eight years old. But it took multiple rejections and many years of trying before she sold her first three novels in 1996 and 1997. After teaching kindergarten and second grade for sixteen years, Janice turned to writing full-time in the fall of 2002. Since then she has written and sold over twenty-five books and novellas. Her publishers include Kensington, Penguin/NAL, Berkley, and Harlequin. Janice lives in east Tennessee with her husband, Charles. They love hiking, traveling, and spending time with their daughters, Caroline and Anna, sons-in-law, Jamie and Chris, three granddaughters, Anastasia, Ainsley, and Allie, and the newest addition to the family, Levi.

USA TODAY bestselling author Janice Maynard asks:

Can a boss on a royal mission mix business with pleasure?

Diplomat Alex Ramon's Miami mission is on the rocks. Convincing the exiled Montoros to give up their American life and return to Alma's throne has become personal. Not only is his trusted aide Maria Ferro flirting with a potential prince, but Alex is actually jealous! So jealous, he might sabotage his goals so he can take Maria to his bed…a prize more tempting than any commission from the crown.

But Alex doesn't know that Maria has a longtime crush of her own—and it isn't on the playboy prince…

My Review:

I love how Maynard jumps right into the thick of the story, providing instant immersion for the reader. She wields her pen to create a wonderfully romantic tale that I thoroughly enjoyed. The mix of business and pleasure was taken to a whole new level.

The prim and proper-ness of the main characters is such a contrast to what we normally encounter in romance novels. Alex and Maria’s relationship was fantastically rocky. The combination of business relationship with sexual chemistry added to the complexity of it all. On top of that, they were quite intriguing characters in and of their own rights. Maria’s success at rising above the ashes and making something of herself put her in the spotlight in a very specific way. Her relationship with her mother took her from a character that I really liked to one that I loved. Alex’s focus on duty and what he should be doing, which directly conflicts with what he felt, made him quite a perplexing individual. You get a feel for the entire Montoro family and what they’re facing coming into this series while still focussing on these two fantastic main characters. I’ll admit that I’m a little bit in love with Isabella. She’s the perfect matriarch for the Montoro family.

Maynard never fails to pen novels that capture you heart and soul. This one is no exception.

  1. This sounds good. I pick up Harlequin's here and there throughout the summer...and this is a first in series! Yay me!
