Back Cover Blurb:

Kalen has escaped from Morinvale, but at a heavy price. Blind and crippled, the best hope for his people is for him to choose a new Rift King, forfeiting his life in the process. With his failure to broker peace between Kelsh and Danar, war is inevitable. For the first time in a thousand years, the Rift prepares to ride into battle.

Choosing his successor is only the beginning of Kalen’s troubles: his Guardians have turned against the Code and Covenant. Instead of securing the Ascension of a new Rift King, they’re doing everything in their power to ensure Kalen’s survival, even if it means the destruction of the Six Kingdoms.

To make matters worse, the skreed conjured in Morinvale aren’t just growing stronger. They’re breeding, and they aren’t picky about what—or who—they’ll eat.

My Review:

Oh wow! Do I ever love this series! Blain has definitely outdone herself with this one. She takes the fantasy genre & runs with it, creating an unbelievably unforgettable whole. Her vivid and picturesque descriptions leave room for readers’ imaginations to run away with them while also building the world in minute detail. The plot leaves you guessing, taking you on a fantastic journey beyond your wildest imagination.

The in depth & intricate character development creates a cast that readers won’t ever be able to forget. I love how they grow from the individuals that we met in the first novel in the series without changing the essential elements that make them who they are. There were some characters that I connected with instantly. Others, I formed an almost instant dislike to. The contrasts were phenomenal.

As a whole, this was a brilliant addition to Blain’s series. I devoured it in less than a day. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to others and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.
