My Review:

This author’s writing is like a breath of fresh air. Her new take on romantic suspense held me captive. Cruz writes in a well thought out and inviting manner that’s a joy to read. Her writing is approachable & fun loving. The fast pace of office life can be felt throughout the novel. Readers also get a sense of foreboding at times. She brings new love to life in a realistic and at times comical manner. Throughout my thoughts flipped from ‘there’s got to be a way for this to end well’ to ‘there’s no possible way this could ever end well.’ Cruz kept me on my toes while taking me for a wild ride. There were a few intensely emotional moments that easily brought tears to my eyes. The many different feelings and emotions evoked by Cruz`s writing simply heightened the impact of this already fantastic story.

Cruz has developed characters with substance. Not only are the characters that we meet today fantastic individuals, but they`re completely developed on all levels, past, present, and their hopes for the future. I loved the main characters from the beginning. Ramon, the n’er do well bad boy alpha is bound to steal your heart. He was such a complex individual. As his many layers unravelled he just kept becoming more loveable (and swoon worthy). Carino was so real and everyday ordinary. Her epic bad day was so easy to identify with. The ‘girlfriend time’ that we see throughout the novel was priceless. It was a great way to get to know more about the main character in a more laid back context. It was also great to see Carino’s support system, making her seem all the more human. Even the secondary characters were developed in such a manner that I couldn’t help but want to dig deeper into their characters. I found myself contemplating Abby more than once, trying to figure out what her secret was. All of the major players had intricately developed backstories that really allowed the various aspects of the novel to sink into place.

This novel is a real game changer. It is romance that’s perfectly balanced with suspense and backed by chemistry that’s off the charts. The fast paced story kept me rapt until the unexpected & very unique conclusion. Cruz is definitely an author to watch.
