PART ONE
Arabella MacLeod was tortured by dragon hunters a decade ago. Ever since, her clan coddled and tip-toed around her, most especially her older brother. Desperate for a chance at freedom, she volunteers to foster with the Scottish dragon-shifter clan. She’s determined to stay clear of the charming Scottish leader, but not only does he keep crossing her path, her dragon is drawn to him.

Finlay Stewart hasn’t been able to forget the scarred dragonwoman he met at Stonefire six months ago. When the same female agrees to be fostered with his clan, Finn pursues her. Balancing his clan duties with his need to see Arabella isn’t easy, especially with the existing rift in the clan, but he’s determined to try. Arabella’s inner strength draws him like no other female before.

Will Arabella trust Finn with her past? Or, will the rift in his clan tear them apart?

My Review:

What a fantastic introduction to the next Stonefire Dragon serial. Donovan begins this story in that style that is uniquely hers, captivating readers with her vivid scenery & unforgettable characters. Chemistry is at the forefront as dragons and humans battle wills in a very catching manner.

I love all the sneak peaks into the old dragon language as well as into their modern day culture and practices. Donovan brings her readers deep into this fantastic world, allowing them access to it on many levels. The way that the dragonshifters refer to each other as ‘male’ and ‘female’ is endearing and really sets them apart from humans.

Donovan is one of the few authors who can actually get me to pick up and read a serial. She uses the format well, bringing more to the story with each instalment. There is also a sense of inevitability at the end of this segment. It’s like a mini conclusion.

Fin and Ara were great together. The battle of wills between the two was pricelessly comical. I loved getting to know them as individuals. Seeing Ara become more like her old self was fantastic. Hearing the full truth about her past was heartbreaking, but it really makes you realise how strong an individual Ara really is. Fin is a definite Alpha male with a capital ‘A’. He’s even more appealing now that he’s being his true self, as opposed to the supped up individual that he pretended to be in previous novels in the series.
