My Review:

This novel had a bit of a slow start to the story with lots of character building. I almost felt like the author gave me too much detail throughout. The step by step chronology on every little thing detracted from the forward motion of the story. I also found the author’s writing to be repetitive. People can only do things so many times before you no longer need to be told about it. Also, the repetitive use of words and redundant sentence structure was distracting from the plot of the story. This book could have used another round with an editor as well. There were a great many times where the wrong word was used in a sentence, similar sounding but different spelling and meaning.

You definitely get to know the characters really, really well because of the author’s attention to detail. I really enjoyed Marco’s character; right up until his lying to ‘protect’ Leena almost got her killed. That said, he did redeem himself after that. And I found that Leena really needed to get a grip at times. But in truth, I did like both of the main characters, for the most part. I did really enjoy how close knit this family was. It’s something that you don’t see every day.

I enjoyed the premise of this story and wanted so badly to love the novel. It had potential but didn’t quite get there.
