In the first book of the Holly(Woods) series, Holly has moved to Los Angeles in hopes of pursuing a film career. When she's cast in a small role on a popular TV show things start to look up, but she soon learns the world of Hollywood is a difficult one to navigate and not everyone can be trusted.

With the help of Evelyn Martin, a faded starlet, and Peter Glades, a man with a past he's desperate to keep hidden, Holly tries to learn the ropes and deal with the politics of fame that follows her budding relationship with Hollywood heartthrob Alan Ryder.

But just as Holly starts to find her footing, a dark secret from the past threatens to destroy everything she has worked for.

My Review:

This novel is a very nice, clean read with an overwhelming bubbly feeling to it. Laeuchli’s step by step writing took me a while to get used to, but once I was there it fit well with the story. The plot was coherent and easy to follow. I will warn you, however, that this novel ends in a massive cliff-hanger, so be warned.

I appreciated the fact that the author focused on more than just the main character in this novel. By showcasing the lives of all of the major characters she makes it much easier for readers to not only get to know everyone more intimately, but also for us to get the full context of the story. It also counterbalanced the fact that it took me the first half of the novel to warm up to the main character. Don’t get me wrong, she’s quite well developed and easy to understand, but there was just something about her that grated on me.

This novel was definitely an interesting start to Laeuchli’s series and a strong debut novel by the author.
