My Review:
Wow. What an intense read. This novella is so much more than supernaturals and soul mates. Roux works some hard hitting personal histories in to make this an unforgettable read. I really enjoy how Roux writes the passage of time. She subtly skips ahead days or weeks at a time without the reader ever feeling like they’ve missed anything. She also makes sure to point out to the reader that time has passed. This allows for a great deal to happen in a short page count.
Roux definitely steps it up a notch with character development in this one. We still don’t know the ins and outs of all the characters, but we know more than enough to float the story forward. People aren’t simply names on pieces of paper. They are 3D individuals that tug at your heart. And the sister is absolutely priceless in this one. She goes from being a voice on the phone in the first to being a very present, and very well developed individual in her own right. She also brings a great deal of personal history, for all characters involved, into the story which leads the reader to a deeper understanding of the circumstances at hand.
Overall? I wish there were more. Not that I feel a sense of incompleteness or of something missing, but I’d love to read more about this world. I’ll definitely be delving further into Roux’s work in the future.
