My Review:
Larry definitely captured the market with this one. She takes the well-known supernatural races, combines them with a vast array of other `human` supernaturals and takes you on a wild ride. Throughout the novel Larry drops bits and pieces of information regarding these individuals and their evolution, while keeping her readers wrapped up in the intense storyline that she has so flawlessly created. And yes, these supernaturals have, and are, evolving. As in Darwin`s theory. It was so subtle yet brilliantly used that I couldn`t help but smile. This is a book about growing up with an extra kick. This novel is naturally written with an enticing flow. Some of Larry`s descriptions are explicitly out there. It`s brilliant and exactly how you`d picture the main character seeing the scene. It was really neat being in the main characters` heads without the story being written in the 1st person. Knowing what they`re thinking is priceless at times.
Larry has created the type of characters that you instinctively want to get to know better. These characters are very easy to relate to, especially since they`re real people with real lives, even if they do have superpowers. As a reader you form an emotional attachment to these characters. Because of this, parts of this novel actually broke my heart. At the same time, others made me think of the goodness inherent in humanity.
Overall, this novel eloquent and captivating yet still has a funny and approachable storyline. It is intensely thought provoking and extremely captivating. I could barely put it down throughout and can`t wait to see how these characters continue to evolve throughout the series.
