Book Blurb:

For Charli Blake, being seventeen is a tough gig.

She's been branded a troublemaker, her reputation is in tatters and she's stuck in Pipers Cove, a speck of a town on the coast of Tasmania.

Thankfully, it's temporary. Her lifelong dream of travelling the world is just months away from becoming reality. All she has to do is ride out the last few months of high school, which is easier said than done thanks to a trio of mean girls known as The Beautifuls.

When Adam Décarie arrives in town, all the way from New York, life takes an unexpected turn. His arrival sets off a chain of events that alters her life forever, convincing her of one thing. Fate brought him to her.

Saving Wishes is the story of a girl who doesn't quite fit the life she's living, and the boy who helps her realize why.

My Review:

When worlds collide many things change. When you’re just finishing high school and this happens you know that nothing will ever be the same. But will you survive to be the same person that you were before? Will you chase after what you believe in? After what is right for you? Walker-Smith uses this brilliant premise to create a realistically captivating world that draws readers in and keeps them captivated for the long haul.

This novel is extremely well written. Walker-Smith’s descriptions are phenomenally detailed yet down to earth and natural. As a reader, you can picture everything as if you were there. Each section flows seamlessly into the next, creating a sense of unity throughout. Her tone of writing also shifts slightly to highlight important issues or emotional shifts in the story. The author has the ability to play with emotions, creating a very unique and exhilarating experience for her audience.

The cast of characters in this novel are unique yet completely natural. They are exactly the type of individuals one would find nearing the completion of high school in a small town. Not only that, but these characters react to real life evens in a manner suited to real life people. The characters are all quite well developed. Some may have secrets, but these secrets are not only kept from the audience, but also from the other characters in the novel. It really helps add to the sense of realism and urgency throughout the novel.

This cohesive story was a phenomenal novel that really drew me in. I couldn’t put it down for a second. At the end I felt a sense of completion while really wanting to continue on in the journey with the main character.
