My Review:

My first thought about this book upon completing it was that it is your stereotypical vampire meets human love story. It had some twists and changes, some of which were very unexpected, but as a whole this is what it was. It is a great lead in to the series as a whole, and hooks the reader on to the possibility of what is to come. The way that Spears managed this was brilliant.

The major characters in this novel were quite well developed. With the way that they were brought to life through the pages of the novel, you could always see where they were coming from and understand their actions and reactions. The minor characters were just there. They could have used some more development, and hopefully this will come in future novels in the series.

Spears uses some amazingly vivid descriptions that make everything seem extremely real. This includes the paranormal aspects of the novel. She manages to portray the outlandish events and aspects of a vampire in a manner that not only makes them seem possible but very plausible.

I think that my biggest issue with this story is that it jumps perspective way too often. At times, it happens from sentence to sentence and then back again. It was very frustrating because it really prevented me from immersing myself into the story.

I’m very intrigued to see where this goes with future installments. There were quite a few things that had me quite intrigued and wanting to know where they would lead. Although I was a bit iffy about this book on its own, I’m dying to see what the sequel brings (no pun intended....).
